With our services and care, you can be sure your pet will be taking the steps necessary to lead a long, healthy life.

Wellness Exams

A comprehensive yearly exam will help to monitor the health of your pet, particularly as he/she ages. These exams also play a large part in early detection of conditions where early treatment provides the best options for your pet. We think of this annual exam as a preventive "physical" for your pet. Vaccines, fecal testing, heartworm/tick disease testing, and feline leukemia/FIV testing are usually done at this time. We also recommend a strategic deworming with this visit. The teeth and gums of each pet are also checked with recommendations for scheduling dental cleanings if needed. Skin, ears, eyes, and orthopedic issues are addressed as well. These annual exams ensure the best opportunity for a long and healthy life.

Annual vaccinations are given by our vet. These are usually done with the wellness exam. There is no exam fee when a pet comes in just for vaccinations. We will discuss recommended vaccines with each client. For new pets/clients, we recommend bringing your pet’s most current vaccine information to the appointment. Vaccine reminders are mailed out around a month prior to their due date to allow the owner time to fit an appointment into their busy schedules.

Preventative Diagnostics

Each pet is as individual as their owner. Therefore, their individual needs may vary. Our staff will recommend methods of maintaining a healthy pet through preventive therapies. We believe in being proactive rather than reactive when it comes to your pet’s health.

We are proud to offer an array of surgical services. We first provide your pet with a thorough pre-anesthetic evaluation including an exam and blood work. The blood work is required for pets 7 years and older, but highly recommended for all surgical patients.

  • Spay/Neuter
  • Bladder stone removal
  • C-section
  • Wound repair
  • Growth/Mass removal
  • Foreign body removal
  • Feline declaws
  • & More
In-house & Out Patient Lab Services

Blood and urinalysis testing can help us determine causes of illness accurately, safely, and quickly. This allows us to diagnose conditions early and monitor progress of medical treatment. Some of the more common tests evaluate organ function, electrolyte status, hormone levels, toxin exposure, pre-anesthetic screenings, and medication monitoring for any possible side effects of long-term use.

At Baraboo Valley Veterinary Clinic, we are able to provide most of the essential testing in-house for immediate diagnosis and treatment of the illness. We also have quick turn-around times from our outside laboratory with most results in 24 hours. We will explain the need for particular lab-work that we recommend, what each panel tests for, and also keep you informed of the results and treatment that follows.

Dental Cleanings & Extractions

We offer in-house dental cleanings for your pet. This procedure is generally recommended for pets 2 years of age or older who are experiencing moderate to severe tarter build up, inflammation, or infection of the gum tissue surrounding the teeth (gingivitis), and/or bad breath that does not improve with the use of preventive products. The procedure involves performing a thorough dental exam, pre-anesthetic blood work to ensure that liver and kidney functions are satisfactory for anesthesia, and occasionally, antibiotic treatment is necessary before a full dental cleaning can be performed. We also have the ability to extract teeth that cannot be saved with a routine dental cleaning.

Nutritional counseling

All pets benefit from a healthy diet, and some pets require prescription diets to control or treat medical issues. At Baraboo Valley Veterinary Clinic, we'll help you select the right food for your pet's age, breed, and health concerns.

Parasite treatments

Baraboo Valley Veterinary Clinic recommends that your pet receives dewormings for intestinal parasites at regular intervals throughout the first year, then regular strategic dewormings as an adult pet. We test in-house with each exam but you also have the option of more extensive laboratory fecal testing. Dewormers will be recommended based on those results. You can be assured of the efficacy and safety of these medications when prescribed by your veterinarian specifically for your pet.

Monthly heartworm prevention is also recommended year-round. Most of these preventions also have intestinal parasite protection. Our technicians and doctor can help in choosing the best options for your family and pet.
